“The market economy is based on the principle of scarcity. God's economy is based on abundance of grace.” — The Rev'd Geoffrey Michael St. John Hoare
Stewardship is a celebration. Stewardship is the money we give, the time we share, and the skills we use in our church and our daily lives. We strive to practice the biblical tithe and return to God a tenth of all that we earn, but we avoid judging ourselves and others for success or failure in meeting this goal. In whatever ways we proclaim our intent to be stewards of God's wealth, it is always our joy to be the people of God. We share what we have to thank God for acting in our lives.
Stewardship calls us to give back to God, by offering our time and talent, and by making a financial commitment to the church.
The annual stewardship drive is conducted in the fall of each year so that the budget can be drawn up in time for the Annual Meeting in January. St. Mark's, in common with many churches in the Western U.S., has no endowment fund and relies almost exclusively on pledge income to fund operations.
We invite you to become a pledging member of St. Mark's. It is important for us to know your intentions about giving so that we can responsibly plan our work. The Episcopal Church invites every baptized member to “strive to tithe” - that is, to offer 10 percent of one's income to the work of God in the church and the world. Please discern a level of giving that reflects your joy and gratitude. The stewardship drive is in the fall, but pledges are accepted year-round. In addition, special offering envelopes are always available in the pews for contributions for outreach.
