St. Mark's Outreach Ministry strives to actively involve our congregation in programs that address the needs of the people in our community. We support programs that fit the following criteria:
In addition to the direct ministries listed above, St. Mark’s Outreach Ministry supports community ministries including: Santa Maria Urban Ministry, Tending the Flock, Christian Homeless Alliance Ministry.
A major focus of the Outreach Committee is the support of Santa Maria Urban Ministry (SMUM), a member of our diocese. We do this in several ways. The Outreach box at the back of the church provides a means for ongoing donations of food and clothing. We also contribute money to SMUM’s general fund.
We collect and provide toiletries, including soap, razors, bandages, deodorant, antibiotic ointment, shaving cream, shampoo, body lotion, toothpaste and toothbrushes, for people in need.
We donate school supplies for children of families in need so that they can begin school in the fall with the tools to help further their education. We provide pencils, pens, binder paper and notebooks, zipper binders, back packs, crayons, colored pencils and markers, l unch boxes and so forth. To support this ministry, watch for the newsletter announcement in August and bring the supplies to the back of the church.
During the cold seasons, we collect new pairs of socks to help keep people warmer. To support this ministry, watch for the newsletter announcement during the winter months and bring the socks to the back of the church.
During the early Christmas season, we purchase gifts for children. We have a gift-wrapping party that travels to the Ministry in downtown San Jose to join with other parishes to make the gifts look festive. We provide direct outreach at the CHAM homeless shelter by preparing and serving meals to needy families at various times during the year. Besides donations, this ministry needs helping hands and smiling faces. Contact Rich Barber at (408) 246-4869.
Outreach supports the hungry and those in need by distributing $5 Albertson’s food vouchers from our church office. You can donate to this special ministry by placing an offering marked “Outreach” in the donation basket or by mailing it to the parish office.
