In the fall of 2004, St. Mark's Preschool installed a brand new, wonderful playground. Many thanks to the Childcare Playground Safety Initiative (CCSPI) for the grant we received, which will cover 60 percent of the cost! CCPSI is an initiative formed by Santa Cruz Community Ventures, Inc., and Childcare Ventures Inc. to grant funds in support of the renovation and replacement of old and unsafe playground equipment on childcare sites. St. Mark's Preschool, under the direction of Kate Mikami ("Miss Kate"), has served St. Mark's and the community well for the past 10 years. We're excited about our new playground, which was designed by Miss Kate to meet preschoolers' developmental, social and play needs. Great care was taken in the playground design to give children plenty of opportunity to explore, develop their motor skills, use their imaginations, and feel both successful and challenged in their endeavors...and, of course, to have fun in the process!
